Day out to the Bakewell Christmas Market
Saturday just gone, I jumped in my wardrobe which at times is bigger than Narnia’s and went hunting for my winter clothes as the time had come to add more layers. One of the reasons why I wanted to was because I was heading out to Bakewell for it’s annual Christmas Market.
Every year they hold this event but never had the time to go before so I was more determined than ever not to miss out! Bakewell is a small market town in the Derbyshire Dales and is famous for it’s Bakewell pudding among other areas.
Situated nicely in the Peak District, but not far from Matlock and Chesterfield
What made me more determined this year has been my Mum being unwell, it’s not something I’ve shared personally around but thankfully she is making a good recovery and when I mentioned we were heading up to Bakewell for the Christmas Market, she jumped at the opportunity to come! One of the things I love most about driving in the Peaks are the views, while you don’t get to see all of it as your driving and concentrating on the roads there are times when you turn a bend and see the view of the mountains it’s amazing!
Arriving at Bakewell we expected it to be a busy day but we didn’t expect it to be that busy. The streets were filled with all different kinds of people from different ages to different religions selling, buying, eating and generally having a good time and I think that’s what makes Christmas great is that it brings everyone together regardless of issues or belief’s.
Lovely shot of the fog slowly coming down over the hills
Walking around there was a mixture of shops and Christmas stalls selling unique and personalised items from candles to craft items (along with the odd cake as well to interest me) and generally a lovely way to spend a Saturday so if your looking for something to do one weekend I suggest you head up there as you’ll have a great time.
On leaving we noticed the fog was settling lower and the night was drawing in so we made our way home but stopped off at the Grouse & Claret for a quick drink to warm us up before we drove on and from the outside you’d think it’s an expensive restaurant that only caters to high end people but to our surprise it was filled with lots of different people at a fair price and when they brought the food out, it was beautiful! So will definitely being going back for a meal in the near future.
Thanks for reading!
P.S here’s on of me later in the evening wearing my partners ht and scarf (I had drunk a few by then)
